December 7th thru 11th 2005
Fantasy Fest 2005
This year's theme is:
"Freaks, Geeks and Goddesses"
visit the
official Fantasy Fest
site
for more information
Hurricane Wilma Update:
Fantasy Fest has been
rescheduled to December 7th through 11th, 2005, with the parade taking place
on the evening of the 10th. ~ Dave
A letter from the parade coordinator: Dear Parade Ambassadors and Entrants --
Parade participants are unstoppable. The parade participants who bring
us a glittering night of ecstasy during Fantasy Fest wanted to entertain
keys locals this weekend. They banded together to offer an impromptu parade
-- not Fantasy Fest -- but Wilmaıs Wake.
Unfortunately, City Manager Julio Avael has nixed the idea. He said it
would require police assistance and the police department was not in a
position to handle it.
It was intended as a morale boost, with no beads, tossables, or silly
string -- nothing to burden Public Works.
Parade participants were anxious to go for it. Reports have been flowing
in from veteran parade entrants reporting that their house and/or car is
trashed, but their floats are okay! Or that their float or costume entry is
ragged and tattered, but suitable for a wake. In fact, I heard Dave
Richardıs crew worked on their float through the hurricane.
In any case, we have a few weeks to get ready for the Dec. 10 parade. The
official Fantasy Fest relocation program has the new festival at Dec. 7
to 10, the parade being on Saturday the 10th. More info on meetings, etc.
soon. I have already been getting e-mails from parade people out of town
saying they are planning to come down.
Meanwhile, I have set up a thread on my blog for parade entrants who may be
looking for a tow vehicle (transportation being severely restricted these
days) or who may have a tow vehicle to share. It can be used as a resource
bulletin board for other parade equipment and personnel, too. Post what you
need, contact those who have it. Leave your contact info in your post. The
blog address is: www.southofthemainstream.blogspot.com.
Other impromptu events popping up this weekend are: a Southernmost
Halloween Impromptu Party (S.H.I.P.)and a La Te Da Fantasy Feast.
The S.H.I.P. party is a walk down Duval Saturday, Oct. 29 with stops at 4
p.m. at La Te Da and Hogs Breath at 5 p.m.. At 6 pm. the march goes up
Duval, stopping at Ricks, Margaritaville, Green Parrot, Mangoes, Kwest,
Aqua, Bobbyı, 801 and Bourbon. At 8 p.m. it happens at Aqua, and Bourbon has
a costume contest at 9 p.m. Art Attack will be doing body painting all day.
Tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow night La Te Da hosts ³The Great Big Fat
Fantasy Feast,², from 6 to 10 p.m. Itıs an all-you-can-eat Italian Buffet
with red or white house wine @ $15.
More info later as I get it. --Judi
