A candid glimpse into the
twisted mind of
Rick Keith...
Zackmusic.com
I would like to congratulate everyone
involved in the float this year for putting together another winning Fantasy
Fest Parade float. The organizers of the parade who know me tend to use my name
by default when talking to the media, but I can claim only a small fraction of
the credit for this year's effort. Two very creative float building groups came
together this year to combine our resources and friends, and to tempt fate once
again (the last time we combined our efforts it didn't work out so well, but
that's another story).
The Plutonian concept belonged to Rick Keith and Steve King who usually test the
limits of the crowds comprehension and the parade organizers tolerance each year
a little more than I do. Rick, Steve, Hutch and myself all brainstormed the
visual, worked out the logistical, and along with many many more people, who I
won't list here for fear of missing someone, built various components of the
float and contributed to last minute tasks details and final touches on a very
rainy pre-parade afternoon. For those lucky enough to find their way to Mama
Flowers shop the week before the parade, Dana and her staff were conducting an
intense costume workshop factory assembly line extraordinaire. Zack and Leland
were brilliant as always with their sound and deserve extra thanks for making it
all happen despite all the forces in the universe conspiring to thwart our
efforts.

We existed
for eons on Pluto in bliss
Never foreseeing disaster like this...
"Your planet’s been downsized,
Red tagged, restricted...
So pack all your things,
you’re shut out, evicted!"
Our planet, we’re told, is no planet at all,
The orbit’s not right and we’re just way too small!
So we’ve all made this journey
Through the vastness of space,
Dodging comets and asteroids
To seek out this place.
It’s asylum you see, we’ve come here to seek.
And join in your party on fantasy week.
So with Conch flag before us, we’re ready to swear,
Cause little Key Weird is the next farthest place out there!
