After leaving my Stock Island (the island next to Key West) home, mom, dad, my brother
Gunny and his dad all went to a dinner party hosted by the mom and dad of
Kodiak a pure bread Beagle. Also attending this party were
Lazy Dog Mob
members: Molly, a Border Collie, and
Bonny, the famous Border Collie.
I was kind of out of it so basically I just slept on a really nice pillow next to a fish tank.
Friday October 28, 2005
Today it was post hurricane Wilma errands with my dad, Gunny and his dad. We did a lot of walking and driving and I learned what “Tucker Come”, “Tucker Sit” and “Good Boy” means. We went to the very dog friendly bar called the
Conch Farm for happy hour and I met up with a lot of other dogs besides the Lazy Dog
Mob.
Saturday October 29, 2005
Mom took me out for a great walk today with my brother Gunny and his dad. We stopped at every intersection to watch out for cars and whenever we saw another dog to just to say hello. I also had to get a checkup at the doctors, I checked out well but need to take some medicine for worms. We went downtown to celebrate
Fantasy Fest even though the festival was postponed. My dad mostly carried me but I did walk a lot too. I met a lot of new and interesting people, other dogs, cats, even some Key West roosters. We ended up at another dog friendly bar called
La Te Da, and partied till 3 am.
Sunday October 30, 2005
Today was a relaxing day. Dad, Gunny’s dad, Gunny and I went on a neighborhood walk. We ended up at a salt pond and had my first swim. I was very impressed with Gunny watching him swim to fetch a tennis ball. After swimming we went and took a freshwater shower and a towel dry, then to watch some football.
Monday October 31, 2005
Today was more post hurricane Wilma errands and clean up. I went with dad to help out Gunny’s dad clean the
Lazy Dog Island Outfitter store where they sell all
Lazy Dog garments including the original Lazy Dog
T-Shirt, Mob
shirts, Lazy Dog hats,
visors and other stuff. You can check out the online store here
Lazy Dog Adventure on-line store. After a long day of clean up we came home and got ready for the trick-or-treaters. Mom, dad and I walked to Gunny’s house where we handed out candy to the kids, and beers to the adults. I was constantly getting mauled by the kids, but it was still fun.
Tuesday November 1, 2005
After a nice relaxing morning, Mom, Dad and I went on a 2 mile walk to a park where we were to meet up with one of my sisters Banyan. It turns out she was a little shy too, even though she was kind of like the leader of the pack early on. We played for a little while, running around chasing each other. We ended up at the
Conch Farm for happy hour.
Wednesday November 2, 2005
Today we went to lunch with Molly and her moms. Then mom, dad and I walked about a mile home on the way we stopped at the pet store to get some things. Later we went to
Hurricane Hole Marina where the Irish Mist is docked, and I got my first boat ride. Molly and Bonnie joined us too. I just sat around and rocked around with the waves. I also got my first collar, it’s a really cool orange Lazy Dog one, you can see it here:
Lazy Dog
Collar. Molly’s moms had a dinner party so I got the see all my new friends into the evening.
Thursday November 3, 2005
Today mom, dad and I walked to Publix Grocery store where they don’t let dogs in. Then I hung out with the Lazy Dog Mob at Hurricane Hole Marina for a couple hours. When we came back we had to move out of Molly’s house and move into Kodiak’s house for the weekend. Kodiak’s mom and dad went on a little wedding anniversary vacation. After the move we went down to the Conch Farm for happy hour drinks my sister Banyan was their so I hung out with her. Later we heard that Jimmy Buffett was going to play at the Reach Hotel so we all went there in the back of a pick up truck. After I was told that I couldn’t get in by the security guard, my dad ran into a friend who let us in some back entrance. So their I was on the beach at the Reach in Key West waiting to see Jimmy Buffett. Well, Jimmy never showed, but I did have a fun time on the beach and can’t wait to go again. We met up with my brother Gunny and his dad and we all went to the La Te Da to finish the day.
Friday November 4, 2005
Today was a relaxing day, my dad and I hung out all day with Kodiak at his house. We played some fetch while Kodiak played keep away. Dad and I went for a couple walks and watched some TV.
Saturday November 5, 2005
Molly and her mom’s, Bonny, mom, dad and I went scurfing today on the Irish Mist. Scurfing is the only surfing we can do in Key West, unless there is a hurricane on the horizon. We ride a surfboard being pulled by a boat. Would you like to see some pictures, we took a lot of them. After scurfing dad and I hung out at Lazy Dog Island Outfitters with Gunny and his
dad.
Sunday November 6, 2005
Football Sunday, After our morning walk, mom, dad, gunny, gunny’s dad and his neighbor went out on the Lazy Dog Charter boat. We all went to a sandbar island called snipes. We had some much fun, gunny and I just swam and ran around for a couple hours. When we came back dad sprayed me down with fresh water then toweled me dry. I love the towel. Molly’s moms prepared a fantastic steak dinner so Gunny, Molly, Bonny, Kodiak and I got hang out some more and watch football before going to
bed.
Monday November 7, 2005
Gunny’s dad needed some post hurricane help so my dad and I came to the rescue. One of the errands we ran were to the pet store where I ran into my sister Wahoo, she just found a new family and home so she was real shy. Later we saw her again at Hurricane Joe’s in Hurricane Hole Marina. Kodiak’s mom and dad ordered some pizza and had people over for Monday night football. Gunny, Bonny and I were
present.
Tuesday November 8, 2005
Dad and I went to Hurricane Hole Marina so he could get online and do some work. I saw Molly, Bonny, Gunny, Bert, Osa, and my sister Wahoo. Dad and I played outside for awhile but mostly I wanted to be a Lazy Dog today.
Wednesday November 9, 2005
Today we moved back into Molly’s house. I like it here because there is cat food which I’m not to eat but get a bit when nobody is looking. In the afternoon Molly, her mom, mom, dad and I went to the beach. I ran around getting sand all over the place. Molly was playing fetch and I was chasing for awhile. I took a swim in the salt water but just for a minute. When we got back dad showered me off with fresh water and we hung out on the front porch with some adult cocktails. Gunny came by so we played a little while our dads planned a poker game. Later that night dad and I walked to Gunny’s house to play some Texas Holdem. Dad came in third, he says, "There's always next time". We went to bed at about
1:30am.
Thursday November 10, 2005
After sleeping in, dad and I went to the ball park to play. I played fetch but not too much. It was very hot so I just wanted to be a Lazy Dog. Later, Molly, her mom, Gunny, his dad, my dad, mom and I went to the Conch Farm for some happy hour adult cocktails. I like the Conch Farm because there’s always food on the ground. I know I’m not supposed to eat it, and my dad does a pretty good job of telling me but sometimes I get a taste. After the Conch Farm, mom, dad and I went to the Hogs Breath to watch a cool band called RST. Kodiak’s mom met us there too, but Kodiak didn’t make it. We stayed for a little while then went home.
Friday November 11, 2005
Today started out Lazy, but mom, Molly’s mom and another friend, Eliza, went on a kayak trip to Destroyer Key, which is about a 2 hour one way trip by kayak. Dad, Gunny and his dad, and I took out the Lazy Dog charter boat to meet them, and give them a ride home. We watched the sunset then headed back to Hurricane Hole Marina.
Saturday November 12, 2005
Before Saturday morning breakfast there was a puppy party at the park. A Yellow Lab named Wiley his older brother Harley, my sister Banyan, Molly and I all played for an hour. Breakfast was at Sarabeth’s. Molly and her moms, Gunny and his dad, Bonny and her mom, Peter, Alisa, mom, dad and I were all there. After dark we went to a fund raiser at Blue Heaven. Dad and I got a ride with Gunny and his dad, Bonny and her mom. Mom met up with us later with her college friend, Sue, and we all went to La Te Da.
Sunday November 13, 2005
After a nice sleep, Gunny and his dad, Bonny, mom, dad and I took out the Lazy Dog charter boat to a sand bar near Boca Grande. This sand bar came to be after hurricane Wilma passed by. We decided to call it Lazy Dog Island. It was windy at Lazy Dog Island, and there were little waves to swim in. I got swamped once, then didn’t like the waves too much. I did go back out into the waves, but only for a short while. When we got back home I was wiped out so I slept while everyone else watch football.
Tuesday November 15, 2005
After a nice lazy day and an hour of playing at the beach, Gunny and his dad, my mom and dad and I went to the Conch Farm for happy hour. We met a new Lazy Dog named Rocko who is a Rotweiler, Boxer, mix. Rocko has some pretty big paws and they say he’ll weigh in at over 90lbs when he’s all grown up. He was very playful even for only 8 weeks old. I’m sure I’ll see him again before I leave for California.
Wednesday November 16, 2005
Today was going to be the day we left Key West, If we were flying, but mom and dad decided to drive me across the United States. Also mom and dad work at a ski resort called Snow Summit and it hasn’t snowed yet, so I think we might stay in Key West longer, maybe even until Thanksgiving.
Friday November 18, 2005
Well it’s definite, we are going to stay until after Thanksgiving. There
is no snow in the forecast back home in Big Bear, so the ski resorts will
not open for the Thanksgiving weekend. It will be fun here in Key West,
because I will get to spend a holiday with friends and family. Dad and
Gunny’s dad will cook a bachelor turkey and Molly’s mom will fry a turkey.
I can’t wait. We moved back to Kodiak’s house to take care of him while
his parents are in Las Vegas.
Saturday November 19, 2005
Mom and I went for a run today…a five mile run!! I had a good time and mom kept telling me that I was doing great. I like to run so I can’t wait until I go again. We went to Sarabeth's for brunch, and then out for happy hour on the Irish Mist for a canal cruise. Later, Gunny, Bonny, Molly, our parents and I came back to Kodiak’s house for upper Crust pizza, beer and wine.

Yes I know, I’ve been a bad blogger. I’m sorry it’s been so long since an
update. Here is a summery my life since I last wrote. Days still spent in
Key West, 30. Days I spent with Dad working 15. Hours it took to drive
across the country, 42. Miles 2,864. Rest areas I visited 8. Motels I
stayed in, 4. Times I got caught in a motel that I wasn’t to be in, 1.
Times I’ve been in a ski lodge, 2. Highest altitude I’ve been up to,
9,285. Times I’ve hiked in the forest, 10. Times I hiked in the forest
with snow, 3. Lakes I’ve walked in, 1. Things I chewed up, 5. People and
dogs I’ve met, a brazilian.
After Thanksgiving, my Dad was hired for some temporary work for 3 weeks
in Key West so we stayed till December 19. Dad was doing a lot of driving
and I would always go with him. We left Key West December 19 at 4:30pm and
arrived in Big Bear Lake California, December 23 at 3pm. We drove a lot of
miles but I really had a good time. I would mostly sleep in the car but
every 2 – 3 hours we would stop at a rest area to stretch our legs and
play or stop to eat. We stayed in a motel every night. This one night in
Baton Rouge, Louisiana there were 4 motels, but because of Hurricane
Katrina 3 of them had no vacancy. The one with vacancy was not very pet
friendly and very expensive. I overheard Dad saying something about price
gouging and I believe him because this place was not very nice, but it was
the only place with vacancy so we stayed. The next morning I was caught
when mom was walking me. The desk clerk did not say anything when we
checked out, so we just left. When we arrived in Big Bear, mom and dad
stopped in the ski lodge at Snow Summit where they work. They had an adult
beverage and introduced me to their friends. Mom and dad take me hiking
everyday, the last 3 days we had to hike in the snow. I really like the
snow it reminds me of beach sand but a lot colder. I also have been wading
in the lake, it’s like the ocean when it’s calm but the water tastes
different. This one day I hiked a 5-mile trail with mom and one of her
friends. You could see the entire Big Bear Valley from the summit.
Sometimes mom and dad both have to work at the same time, so I have to
stay home alone. I get a little bored with my 5 toys and found that
backpack straps taste good. Actually window blinds, towels, pillows and
books all taste good too. Now I have my own room, it’s the biggest room in
the house with the best views, but there are not too many things to eat. I
really miss my friends back in Key West, but the mountains are pretty
nice. I really have a great time outdoors in the forest, and I’m always
meeting people and making new friends on the trail.
Bonny and Kodiak - Welcome to the Lazy Dog Blog.
Gunny - You think Guinness is good, you should try some of my dad's home
brew!! yummy
Check out my personal gallery for some
pictures from the road trip and
me at my new home in Big Bear.

Big Bear Lake is more pet friendly then mom and dad thought. We all
went out to this bar called the "Big Bear Pub" in the Village. The Village
is the original town. It's 3 blocks long with shops, restaurants, the
movie theater and three of the main bars. Kind of like Duval street in Key
West. Mom and dad had a couple adult cocktails with one of their "married
with children" friends that had a sitter for the night. They chatted while
I explored this new place.

Today to my surprise dad joined mom and I on a 5
mile hike. Dad has been working a lot at Snow Summit in Big Bear. I
had so much fun running through the mud and snow. Mom and dad talked a lot
about Key West, Lazy Dog Island Outfitters & Adventure Company, diving,
snorkeling, fishing and kayaking. Thinking about it I really miss Key West
and hope to get back there one day. This past week I've come to
learn that I don't need to bark at everything. Dad says that he's so proud
of me figuring that out. I did however learn that chasing squirrels and
birds is fun. Dad doesn't like me to chase them but I figured I can get
away with it for a little while longer.

Mom and I played by the lake today. We met a nice Border Collie named
Flynn. It was like old times with Gunny because Flynn's dad would throw a
tennis ball really far into the lake and Flynn would go swimming after it.
I would chase her till I just about couldn't stand then just wait till she
came back and run with her back to shore. After a while I rolled around in
the high grass to try and dry off because I was getting a little
cold. After the lake we went to visit dad at Snow Summit where where
he works. I drove back home with him in the Toyota pick up.

Today mom, dad and I hiked a section of the Pacific Crest Trail,
(PCT). The hike took over 2 1/2 hours and we were the only ones on it. We
hiked by an old gold mine (The Lucky Baldwin Mine) where dad said used to
produce a lot of gold. You can still see the old ore bin and where the
stamp mill was. There is a storm coming so it was very windy and felt
colder than normal. I hope this storm brings in some snow, I really like
the snow and can't wait to play it it again.

Today was errand day with dad, moms in Las Vegas visiting a friend, her
new baby and family. After a hike, we went to the bank, grocery store,
post office, snowboard shop and a place called the VCA Lakeside Animal
Hospital. Dad said I also have a “special visit” on February 7. I do agree
with you Gunny, after walking on a tree across a 50 foot high gorge and
climbing 30 feet high on boulders, I’m not too afraid of much anymore,
except people that get too close to me, mom or dad. First I barked at
them, dad said no to that, now I’m trying to nip them in the calf, you
know like when you want the stubborn cows or sheep to move, dad doesn’t
like that either. Gunny, I think the cojones is a pilot boat docked at A&B
Marina.

I’m a little tired today so this will be a short post. I woke up with dad
went outside for a bit then ate some food. I think I ate too fast because
when I went back to bed with mom everything I just ate plus the piece of
chocolate cake I tried to sneak (dad caught me) last night came back up. I
felt bad because it was a mess but I do feel a lot better now. It was like
60 degrees today so mom and I went to the lake so I could swim while dad
went to work.
Wednesday, February 1, 2006
Hey all another week has gone by, nothing too much to talk about until
now, mom and dad threw a party. 10 people, 8 racks of ribs, 12 baked
potatoes, 12 corn on the cobs, 2 bowls of black beans (1 vegetarian for mom
and 2 other guests) 3 portobello mushrooms (again for mom) a big salad,
brownies, and a chocolate cake. Can’t forget beer, wine, liquor and beer.
People started coming over about 4pm and didn’t leave till midnight. I
stayed up the whole time keeping an eye on everyone. Before the party we went
to a friend’s house to visit them and Jolie Côté a Siberian husky and Reyito a Great Dane. Jolie is my size and about a year and a half old, we
played for a little while, but mostly I wanted to investigate this new
yard. Rejito is big and 10 years old so he didn’t play with us he just
watched over.

Today was a really cool day I got to go on 2 forest outings, a 2 hour hike with mom and her friend in the morning, and an hour walk with mom and dad right before it got dark. Dad was running me too, I’m thinking it might have something to do with the “special visit” tomorrow. I did find out that sometimes cojones mean balls. So maybe we can’t play with tennis balls tomorrow. It’s ok because I like to chase sticks too.

Wow, what just happened, was I abducted by aliens? All I remember is
that early yesterday morning, mom, dad and I went the VCA Lakeside Animal
Hospital, for the “Special Visit” and I was taken away to the back room
without mom and dad and then going to sleep when I didn’t want to. When I
wake up, I’m in a place that I’ve never seen before and notice these
strings tied in knots down around my private area, oh and by the way my
hair is gone from there too. This morning when I get up, I’m still in the
same place, but about the same time as yesterday, I get taken to the front
room and dad is there waiting. Boy was I happy to see him, jumping and
kissing him like I haven’t seen him forever. He talked to the assistant,
and she said that I can’t run around a lot and that I have to go back in 2
weeks. Also that I haven’t wanted to investigate those strings too much so
for now I don’t need a cone. After we left the VCA we went to the Big Bear
Discovery Center, and to my surprise mom was there too, and I was as happy
to see her as dad earlier. I guess she volunteers some of her time there.
Well, now after an easy walk on the leash, I’m home and glad to be here. I
just ate some food and am going to take a nap, I just had the strangest 24
hours of my life.
Monday, February 13, 2006
Life is back to normal, it seemed after the special visit I wasn’t aloud
to do the things I did before the visit. Like we stayed inside a lot and
when we did go outside I had to be on a leash, we didn’t go hiking in the
forest or swimming in the lake, we didn’t even play fetch. It was a real
drag but like I said it’s all back to normal, except I still haven’t gone
swimming in the lake yet. Last night mom and dad had some friends over, at
first I wasn’t sure if there were go or bad guys so I barked, but when dad
told me that everything was ok I stopped. They all played this game on a
table hitting a little white ball with paddles. I couldn’t play with the
ball when they were, but after they finished it was my turn. I only played
with it for like a minute, before it broke and dad threw it in the
garbage. Today was a lazy day, after dad went to work mom and I rested
some more. We went on a hike in the afternoon, when we got back, I was
wiped out, so I rested some more. Even after dad came home, I was still
tired, I guess I stayed up too long last night or maybe it was the beer I
drank when nobody was looking.
Wednesday February, 15 2006
Today started out with a nice hike on the woodland trail with mom and dad. I did my normal thing running around, jumping on logs, stumps, and climbing rocks. After we got home dad and I went next door and got a big ladder and paint supplies. Then we painted the ceiling of the game room.
Here’s a picture of dad, and me helping. What do you think of dad’s new look? He said that he was going for Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow look in the Pirates of the Caribbean. I guess the new movie Dead Man’s Chest comes out in July and he wants to be ready.
Thursday February 16, 2006
After dad and I put another coat of paint on the ceiling a friend came over. Then mom and dad were busy reading and signing their names on paper. Later they said that the house is officially on the market.
You can see it here on
realtor.com. Oh and I got a couple cameos in the photos. They told me later that we were all moving back to Key West, and going to work for Lazy Dog Island Outfitters. Hooray!! I get to be back with my brother, sisters and my best Lazy Dog friends.
Friday February 17, 2006
It started snowing early evening and when mom and dad came home from work, we went outside and played in it for an hour. I really like playing in the snow and getting my nose right in there. There is about 3 inches on the ground now and 6 more coming tomorrow. Mom and dad’s friends Mike and Autumn just walked in the door and are visiting for the whole weekend. I have to make sure there are ok people so I must go now.
Tuesday, February 28, 2006
Talk about rain, it rained 4 inches today, mom and dad were even called off from work because the resort was closed. We played outside in the rain for about an hour. I came home so dirty that I got a bath, with shampoo. First time for that. I didn’t really like it but I dealt with it. I did smell really nice and felt very clean after.
Friday, March 3, 2006
Today after our hike in the forest, we met this nice 110-pound chocolate lab. He had a plastic toy that I kept trying to get, reminded me of the times I spent trying to get the ball form Gunny. Except he couldn’t be pushed around as easy. I did get it once and kept it for a couple minutes, but this guy was big so I gave it back. The other day with mom we met a yellow lab by the lake, I would chase her into the lake but not over my head. I’m still not too sure about this swimming thing, but I am getting more daring as I get older and bigger. |
