When a hurricane's brewing and the wind's picking up, or if there's a strong blow coming just right out of the southeast, certain local residents can be seen taking to the water with surfboards in tow. Nostalgic for youthful days spent surfing a big break on a beach somewhere better know for waves and surfer girls, these tenacious surf enthusiasts have found a couple of good spots at the outer reef, and off the point at Fort Zachary Taylor where there is a ride-able break.

A front that brought a good steady wind out of the North recently produced a decent swell at Cottrell Key...
And on a rougher day at Cottrell Key...
